Efficient peer effects estimators with group effects

چکیده
We study linear peer effect models where peers interact in groups and individual’s outcomes are the group mean outcome characteristics. allow for unobserved random effects as well observed fixed effects. The specification is part motivated by moment conditions imposed Graham (2008). show that these can be cast terms of a model they lead to class GMM estimators with parameters generally identified long there sufficient variation size or types. also our contains Quasi Maximum Likelihood estimator (QMLE) model, Wald (2008) within Lee (2007) special cases. Our identification results extend insights how assumptions about effects, certain forms heteroscedasticity used overcome reflection problem identifying QMLE accommodate additional covariates valid situations large but finite number different sizes Because general based procedures, using instruments other than binary indicators estimation straight forward. accommodates level spirit Mundlak Chamberlain offers an alternative specifications. Monopolistic group design with peer effects
In a range of settings, private firms manage peer effects by sorting agents into different groups, be they schools, communities, or product categories. This paper considers such a firm, which controls group entry by setting a series of anonymous prices. We show that private provision systematically leads to two distortions relative to the efficient solution: first, agents are segregated too fin...

متن کاملSmall-group composition and peer effects
This paper reviews research on grouping of students within classes and its effects on learning. Primary consideration is given to grouping and mixing students by ability, though consideration is also given to grouping and mixing students by ethnicity and gender as well as to research on the effects of group size. Results of meta-analyses of grouping show a small but meaningful advantage of form...
متن کاملWithin-group Estimators for Fixed Effects Quantile Models
This paper provides within-group estimators for fixed effects quantile models. We apply the quantile coupling transformation to well approximate fixed effects quantile models by fixed effects Gaussian models. Our estimators enjoy three advantages: (1) fixed effects are eliminated by within-group estimators, so that ours is computationally fast without involving the increasing Hessian matrix wit...
متن کاملGrouped Effects Estimators in Fixed Effects Models
We consider estimation of nonlinear panel data models with common and individual specific parameters. Fixed effects estimators are known to suffer from the incidental parameters problem, which can lead to large biases in estimates of common parameters. Pooled estimators, which ignore heterogeneity across individuals, are also generally inconsistent. We assume that individuals in our data are gr...
